The Volkswagen Ameo compact sedan, after being spied on various occasions, made its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo last month. The Ameo has now been spied testing in its production form. The test mule in the spy images comes mated to the 1.5 litre diesel engine. This engine, as revealed by Volkswagen earlier, comes clubbed to a DSG transmission. Spy images also suggest that the Ameo will be receiving LED DRLs inside of the headlamp cluster.

Aesthetically, the front fascia of the Ameo seems to have been borrowed from the Vento, although with a few tweaks. The most prominent change can be seen at the posterior, with the boot now being reduced to a smaller size. The tail lights feature a new design while the number plate recess is inspired from the Skoda Rapid, both coming from the same family.

Powering the Ameo will be a 1.2 litre MPI petrol engine that produces 75 PS of power and 110 Nm of torque apart from the 1.5 litre TDI engine that produces 105 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be handled by a 5 speed manual transmission on both the models whereas the 7 speed DSG transmission will be limited to the latter. Safety features such as dual front airbags and ABS will come as a standard feature across the variants.

Reports suggest that the Ameo is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2016 although there is no official news from Volkswagen. Once launched, the Ameo will rival the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Figo Aspire and the Tata Zest.
