Last year, Mercedes unveiled the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept prior to Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and gave us a taste of what the future Maybachs would look like. This time around, Mercedes has shown what it really means by ‘Contemporary Luxury’ by revealing the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet, the first full-sized, open-top, true Maybach offered by the company in decades.
The Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is an embodiment of luxury. With its design inspired by the classic Art Deco proportions, the cabriolet adorns a beautiful 20-foot long curved body delineated in nautical-blue metallic with its rear made to look like a ‘boat tail’. All this grace is balanced by the aggressively long, stretched hood meeting with the pinstripe suit inspired radiator-style grille composing the front.
Inside, the Maybach 6 Cabriolet is wrapped with plush-white Nappa leather which provides great contrast to the dark paint finish on the outside. To make the Cabriolet feel like a premium yacht lounge, the flooring is done in wood and laced with aluminum inlays. One of the most amazing design aspects of the interior is the central tunnel embedded with blue fiber optics connecting the front and the rear along with the display strip that encloses the entire cabin with hazy blue lights adding a whole new level of affection for the open-top cabriolet.
The artistic design isn’t the only dimension concentrated by Mercedes, performance has been given equal importance. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is an all-electric drive car with four independent motors powering each of the wheels, just like in the Mercedes-SLS AMG E-cell electric sports car. The synchronous motors generate 750 horsepower put together, enough to take the Cabriolet from 0-100 kmph in under four seconds and a total range of 497 km. Top-speed, on the other hand, is electronically limited to 248 kmph. That’s not all, Mercedes has tuned this car with a special new “super” charger which gives the flat batteries of the Cabriolet a current input of 350kW and helps them achieve a range of 100 km’s in just five minutes of charging.
All this makes the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet a true work of electric art along with breathtaking performance.
