Dilip Chhabria stunned the Indian masses back in 2015 when he launched the DC Avanti. DC has gathered a reputation for overhauling bland looking regular cars that you would drive to your office, into something spirited and eye catching, if not entirely aesthetically puristic. Then came the coupe styled sports car produced exclusively by DC Design, the DC Avanti, taking the tag of India’s first homegrown sports car.
The very unusual design of the DC Avanti, supposedly inspired by the Studebaker Avanti, received mixed reactions from the masses and wasn’t really appreciated by design gurus either. Yet, the Avanti didn’t fail to create some ripples and become the talk of the town for quite some time. Now, the first Indian sportscar is creating news once again by traveling to the enchanting Ladakh, the deserted, barren land high up where the Avanti rumbled fiercely, running along the scenic roads.
The details about the making of this promotional video are not known yet, but DC has provided us with some stunning pictures and a well-filmed video for the same. While the car is seen traversing relatively well-paved surfaces in the video, we’re sure the 170 mm ground clearance would have come handy tackling bad surfaces along the way.
The DC Avanti carries some pretty impressive performance parameters, where a Ford 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine powers this sports car by churning out a power output of 250 bhp along with a torque of 366 Nm. All this power is transferred to the wheels effectively with the help of a 6-speed manual transmission, making the Avanti capable to achieve a 0-100 kmph sprint time of about 6 seconds and a subsequent top speed of 180 kmph. Being a product of DC Design’s, the DC Avanti is crafted with the punishing Indian road surfaces in mind. In comparison to other sports car available in the market today, the DC Avanti comes a bit easy on the pocket with a price tag of Rs 36 lakh, ex-showroom.
