Renault India’s latest TVC (video below) shows superstar Ranbir Kapoor, the new face of the brand, chilling with the Lodgy and the Duster models. The slow selling Fluence doesn’t get much screen footage though, while the ill-fated Scala and Pulse models have been completely given the boot. Towards the end of the TVC though, the highly anticipated Kwid appears on screen, with a “coming soon” reassurance. In the backdrop plays A.R. Rahman’s new composition for Renault India, called Re Re Re Raftaar.

The Renault Kwid is based on Renault-Nissan Alliance’s modular CMF-A platform, and will be manufactured in India. The Kwid is 3.68 meters long; 1.58 meters wide and boasts of a relatively high, 180mm of ground clearance, along with “SUV styling”. Power comes from a 800cc, three-cylinder DOHC engine reportedly outputting 57 bhp, making the Kwid the most powerful car in its class. Fuel efficiency, promises Renault, will also be class leading.

Thanks to a high localization content of 98%, the Kwid will launch with an aggressive pricing structure (INR3-4 lakh). Segment first features on the inside will include a touchscreen Media-Nav multimedia/navigation system with a seven-inch display and a fully digital instrument console. The Kwid is expected to launch in the month of October, with media drives scheduled in the second week of September. Stay tuned!
