VIDEO: Lamborghini Huracan Performante Teased, A New Nurburgring Record Coming Soon?

Automobili Lamborghini has teased their upcoming performance focused Huracan ahead of its launch at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. To be christened as the ‘Huracan Performante’, the video hints at the highest feat the model has achieved at the Nurburgring.

With this hint dropped, one can assume that the Huracan Performante is likely to break the record of not only the Aventador SV, which stands at 6:59,73; but also the record of the Porsche 918 Spyder as the fastest production car around the ‘Ring. The German hyper-car has set a record of 6:57 at the ‘Ring, also referred to as the Green Hell.

This is not the first time the Huracan Performante has been teased though, as a previous teaser video reveals details of the forged carbon composites that would help the model shed 90 lbs (40 kg) over the standard model. A part of this reduction in weight is also attributed to a new exhaust system, which helped reduce 25 lbs (11kg).

While official details of the Huracan Performante are yet to be revealed, a few publications who had the opportunity to review the pre-production model revealed a few significant details of the upcoming model. Although the new variant of the Huracan will be powered by the same 5.2-litre V10 engine, the power and torque figures will see a bump of approximately 20-40 PS and about 40 Nm respectively. The seven speed dual-clutch gearbox will also be tuned for quicker shifts.

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante is also likely to receive an updated suspension setup. Hold up, we’re not done yet. The most crucial change would be the ‘Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva’ or active aero agenda. This feature, according to MotorTrend, has two flaps on either side of the rear wing that can open and close individually, applying downforce to either the right or left rear tire as needed. Such a system would maximize cornering downforce while minimizing drag, helping to balance the car in high-load transitions and maximize ultimate speed. Coming back to the lap timing, an official announcement will be made on February 23, 2017. Stay tuned.
