Video: Hot Rod built with Ford Ecosport 1.0 liter petrol engine

Hot Wheels Rip Rod

A hot-rod is the most unlikely place for Ford’s puny, yet thrifty 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine from the Ford Ecosport. Yet, boffins at Ford Racing have built the Rip Rod, a small, light-weight fiberglass body and some custom tubing wrapped around the award-winning 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine pretty much defines it. And if the Hot Wheels livery intrigues you, Ford racing have built it in association with the Hot Wheels team.

The 2014 Rip Rod is an evolution of the static project car first seen at the SEMA Auto Show in Las Vegas last year on the Ford Motor Company stand and designed and built by Mattel and Bandito Brothers. Back to the engine, it’s all of 999cc and fits inside a suitcase, apart from producing 125 PS of power and 170 Nm shove  in the Indian Ecosport. Although no output figures for the Rip Rod have been released, we’re guessing it’ll be better endowed, closer to the 205 PS output from the Formula Ford racers using the same engine.
