Upcoming Skoda Rapid facelift caught undisguised; launch expected in November 2016

Skoda’s upcoming sedan, the new Rapid facelift, has been snapped without any camouflage. The new facelift variant, expected to be launched on November 03, 2016, was seen during test runs on several occasions. This will be the first update to the Rapid, after it was originally launched in the country in 2011.

As reported earlier, the new Rapid will feature exterior upgrades. The facelift Rapid will get sharper headlights and grille. The front fascia will also don a new bumper, restyled fog lamps and a redesigned air intake. The facelift will also feature new alloy wheels, revised tail lamp graphics and a new rear bumper.

Refreshed interior list includes new upholstery fabric and a new infotainment system with Mirrorlink. Other new features like rain sensing wipers, cruise control, front center armrest with rear AC vent, Climatronic-automatic AC with dust & pollen filter, electrically adjustable & foldable ORVMs are also expected.

In terms of mechanical details, the 2016 Skoda Rapid is also expected to continue with the same engines. The petrol powered 1.6 MPI delivers 103 bhp at 5,250 rpm and 153 Nm of max torque at 3,800 rpm. The 1.5 TDi, on the ither hand, will now get more power, rated at 110PS (as seen on the new Ameo diesel) at 4,400rpm and a torque of 250Nm between 1,500 – 2,500 rpm. The petrol engine will come with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission choices while the diesel engine can be paired to a 5-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission choices.
