2016 Skoda Rapid Facelift Launch Likely on November 3

We’ve been bringing you the spy shots of the Skoda Rapid facelift from time to time, though the exact details about the launch dates of the C-segment sedan were not clear until now. Fresh new reports, however, suggest that the Czech carmaker will introduce the 2016 Rapid facelift to the market officially on November 3, 2016. The car was recently spotted in its production-ready form. This will be the first update to the Rapid, after it was originally launched in the country in 2011.

In its new avatar, the Rapid will get some nip and tuck on the outside, along with new features on the inside. The headlights will get sharper, and so will the grille. Other changes would include a new front bumper, restyled  fog lamps and a redesigned air intake. New alloy wheels, revised tail lamp graphics and an oh-so-subtle rear bumper fix round off the changes on the outside.

On the inside, the facelift will get new upholstery fabric, a new infotainment system with Mirrorlink, while other new features like rain sensing wipers, cruise control, front center armrest with rear AC vent, Climatronic-automatic AC with dust & pollen filter, electrically adjustable & foldable ORVMs are also expected.

The 2016 Skoda Rapid is also expected to continue with the same engines, which include the 1.6 MPI and the 1.5 TDi mills. The petrol fueled 1.6 MPI delivers 103 bhp at 5,250 rpm and 153 Nm of max torque at 3,800 rpm. The 1.5 TDi will now get more power, rated at 110PS (as seen on the new Ameo diesel)  at 4,400rpm and a torque of 250Nm between 1,500 – 2,500 rpm. The petrol engine is offered with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission choices while the diesel engine can be paired to a 5-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission choices.

On the outside, the Rapid facelift is expected to get a new pair of headlamps, Skoda’s new front grille, a re-profiled front bumper, and some minor changes to the taillights. The interiors are expected to remain mostly the same, though there might be some feature additions, including a new infotainment system with MirrorLink, phone book and SMS viewer.
