There is no denying that the automatic scooter segment of our country’s two wheelers market is enjoying a decent growth rate. With almost every other bike maker deciding to foray into this fast developing segment, future seems pretty promising for Indian scooter buying crowd.

The now defunct Kinetic Honda can easily be credited with playing an instrumental role in the development of this segment. While Kinetic Honda became Mahindra Two Wheelers some years back, the core business for Mahindra Two Wheelers still lies in the auto scooter segment. What else explains the Rodeo and the Duro being the two top selling models in Mahindra Two Wheelers’ product portfolio?

Now, it has emerged that the Pune based auto major will soon come up with one more auto scooter. A Mahindra scooter test mule was recently spotted testing at the outskirts of Pune. Speculations are abounding that the upcoming scooter could has been codenamed as 301 and will not share its engine with the Rodeo and Duro. Our guess is that this scooter would be launched after the launch of the Centuro 110cc motorcycle and before the launch of the much publicized Mojo 300.

The upcoming scooter could be powered by a new sub 125cc engine that would have high fuel efficiency and power figures. This scooter would battle it out against the Yamaha Ray and the Honda Dio. We won’t be too surprised to see Mahindra marketing the new scooter as a ‘female specific’ offering.

Stay tuned to Motoroids for more info on the upcoming Mahindra automatic scooter.
