The upcoming generation of Mercedes S Class looks all set to raise the bar in its segment. While the new S Class is already out and would be soon seen replacing the last gen S Class in every market, BMW is still sometime away from launching the new 7 Series. However, the work on the new 7 Series is in full swing and a 2016 7 Series spy mule was recently spotted testing in France.
The car has been codenamed as the G11 and is currently in early prototype phase. The sixth generation of the 7 Series will be underpinned by a new platform that will have ample weight saving technologies. It is being said that the new car might have the roof, hood and the boot lid made entirely out of carbon fibre. The new car could be as much as 200 kgs lighter than the current car.
The next generation BMW 7 Series will be longer than the current car (5.15 m vs 5.08 m) and will also get a Long Wheel Base model for Chinese car market.
The new car will get a lot of technologies and styling cues from the i8 hybrid and the new car will be high on gadgets. The car could get hi-tech features such as 3D maps with real-time traffic updates, weather updates, downloadable applications, Wi-Fi capabilities and enhanced voice activation system.
Powering the car will be new petrol and diesel engines that will be mated to the new 9-Speed ZF transmission. A M Sport variant with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system will also be offered.
