Powering both the new Bimmers is an inline-six TwinPower Turbocharged 3.0-liter engine that has a max power of 431 HP and a peak torque of 550 Nm. On being compared to the outgoing model, the new gen M3 is 25 percent more fuel efficient and around 80 kg (176 lbs) lighter. BMW claims that the new cars will have a fuel efficiency of 26.7 mpg in US cycle with the manual and 28.3 mpg US with the DCT.

For the new M cars, the engineers at Bavarian auto maker have reworked the MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension by using lightweight components. These help in reducing unsprung masses and increasing rigidity. Both the two new cars ride on 18-inch alloy wheels that come shod with 255/40 front and 275/40 rear tires.
