The Indian auto component industry keeps changing as companies add new products and increase manufacturing capacity. Uno Minda has now taken another step in that direction. The company has approved a new manufacturing plant in Maharashtra that will make complete passenger vehicle seating systems. This also marks Uno Minda’s entry into a new product category that can help expand its business in the passenger vehicle segment.
Uno Minda To Build New Seating Systems Plant
Uno Minda’s board has approved an investment of Rs 320 crore for a greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The new unit will manufacture complete seating systems for four-wheeler passenger vehicles.
The project will be developed through Uno Minda Tachi-S Seating Pvt. Ltd. (UMTS), the company’s joint venture with TACHI-S Co. Ltd., Japan, where Uno Minda holds a 51 percent stake.
Commercial production from the new plant is expected to begin during the fourth quarter of FY28.

Funding Plan
Uno Minda said the project will be financed through a combination of equity and term loans.
The company’s Investment, Mergers & Acquisitions Committee has also approved an additional equity investment of up to Rs 93 crore in UMTS. This investment will be made in different phases and will not change Uno Minda’s 51 percent ownership in the joint venture.

Part Of A Bigger Journey
Uno Minda and TACHI-S formed their joint venture in September 2022. The first phase was limited to manufacturing passenger vehicle seat recliners.
The new investment expands the partnership into complete seating systems. The company has also confirmed that the joint venture has already received its first order from a leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, giving the project an early production pipeline.
Uno Minda believes this expansion will increase its presence in the passenger vehicle components business while adding another major product to its portfolio.
