Toyota Etios Hybrid could be headed to India

The recently announced National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020(NEMMP 2020) should really push the electric and hybrid vehicles market in India. This plan, which offers subsidy to the manufacturers and sellers of hybrid and electric vehicles, would not just push the hybrid and EV market but will also help in bringing down the pollution levels.

Mahindra already sells Reva-i and the Reva E2O EV in our country and it has now emerged that the Indian subsidiary of Japanese auto giant Toyota might launch Etios Hybrid variant in India.

Currently, Toyota is the only car manufacturer in the country to have a hybrid car in its product portfolio. The Toyota Prius, which comes to us via CBU route, hasn’t really set the sales charts on fire. Nothing surprising here as the car has a stratospheric price tag that can put to shame many a petrol/diesel powered premium cars in the country. Toyota isn’t ready to give up yet and is now thinking of bringing in a hybrid variant of the Etios sedan to the country. Toyota Etios hybrid is pretty sure to have high fuel efficiency, which combined with a good pricing (thanks to benefits by NEMMP), should make the car quite an exciting proposition.
