In case you’re wondering, farm equipment can have brisk moves too. Here’s a tractor that claims to be the fastest in the world. Ladies and gents, meet the Valtra T234, which was hurtled to a Guinness certified top speed of 80.88 mph (or 130.165 km/h) – on snow and ice nonetheless.
Piloted by four-time World Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen, the Valtra hit its top whack at a run organized by tire maker Nokian Tyres in Finland. The speed run involved a long straight preceded by a wide corner. In fact, the preceding corner wasn’t wide enough as first envisioned, and Kankkunen complained about not being able to carry enough speed through it. The first runs barely passed the 100 km/h mark. They the organizers extended the straight and widened the corner, that leading to a much improved trap speed of just over 130 km/h.
The Valtra T234 tips the scales at a hefty 7,300 Kgs. That’s a hell of a lot of weight, but the tractor’s six-cylinder diesel-turbo engine generates a gut wrenching 1000 Nm of torque and 247 hp of power.
