The Indian subsidiary of Audi launched a new entry level variant of its high selling Q3 crossover in Indian car market today. Christened as the Q3 S, the new model goes on sale for a price of INR 24.99 lakhs.
With the launch of the new variant, the Q3 becomes much more affordable and this should help the German premium car maker with fending off the competition from other players in the entry level luxury car segment.
The mouth watering price tag of the Audi Q3 S is courtesy the local assembly, which will take place at Audi’s facility in Aurangabad.
The Q3 S gets a detuned version of the 2 litre, direct injection, diesel engine that powers a range of Audi models. While this engine produces a max power of 174 bhp and a peak torque of 380 Nm for the pricier variants of the Q3, the Q3 S will have to do with a max power output of 140 bhp and peak torque of 320 Nm. The Q3 S misses out on All Wheel Drive and the S-Tronic auto ‘box has been replaced by a six speed manual transmission.
Also helping Audi India with pricing the Q3 S ultra competitively is a shorter features list, which doesn’t include a panoramic sunroof, satellite navigation, DRLs, Xenon lamps, Sat-nav and the reverse parking camera. All this makes Audi Q3 lighter by 140 kilograms and of course, significantly more pocket friendly. However, the Q3 S does get-
- Six airbags
- Electronic Stabilization Program
- Cruise Control
- Rear parking sensors
- Driver infotainment system
- Voice dialogue system for voice commands
It would be interesting to see if the Q3 S would play a significant role in keeping the Audi Q3 at the top of the sales charts.
