The 2016 E-class is expected to be 55 mm longer then its former version

Hundreds of prototypes of the upcoming, 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213) have been photographed with barely any camouflage. We can see what Mercedes is trying to do with sticking to a family resemblance here, but their sedan line-up is starting to look eerily similar. The 2016 Mercedes E-class will be based on a shortened version the S-class platform, which means that the new E-class will not only be longer and wider but also lighter than before.  The new E-class will be 55 mm longer than the current generation.

Mercedes will introduce the 2016 model of its E-class sedan at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), generally known as the Detroit Motor show; which will be held from January 11th to January 24th 2016. The upcoming series will feature the four cylinder petrol engine and the new generation OM-654 four-cylinder diesel engine .The top of the line AMG model will feature the four liter, twin turbo V8 which also powers the C63 AMG and the AMG GT. The new E-Class will also feature a host of new technologies and driving aids.

The E- class has been one of the most successful models for the German manufacturer in India after registering a growth of 40% in Q1 of 2015. The model is likely to launch in India by the end of 2016, after its launch in the European markets in mid-2016. It will be imported as a CBU and after judging the response; Mercedes could start production of the 2016 model at their plant in Chakan, Pune.  The E-class faces competition from the BMW 5 series and the Audi A6, which too should be bringing in their new models out soon.
