Tata Zica sheds camouflage, spied undisguised ahead of launch

Finally, the all new Tata Zica hatchback has shed its camouflage and has been spotted undisguised ahead of its official launch next month. Tata Motors has left no stone unturned to make their #madeofgreat Zica a blockbuster. Following the involvement of Star footballer Lionel Messi, they also roped in event management giants in order to take the marketing and promotion of the hatchback to the next level.

The name Zica is derived from the first two letters of the words “ZIppy CAr”. The Zica was earlier known by its code name, Kite.

The Tata Zica is based on a heavily reworked version of the Indica’s X0 platform. On the visual front the car seems to be an uptown version of the Bolt. The front end will feature an evolution of Tata’s signature smiley honeycomb-grille with a chrome ‘Humanity Line’. As seen in the spyshots of the Zica (probably the top end variant) a prominent line runs from the front to the newly designed tail-lamp cluster through the door handles. The top trims gets alloy wheels, fog lamps, body colored door handles, ORVM with turn indicators, part LED tail lamps, rear parking sensors, defogger with rear wiper/wash, and an integrated spoiler with blade like elements to pep up the design.

This Zippy car will be rolled out with two new engine configurations – 1.05-litre, three-cylinder diesel unit, and a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit. While the diesel engine is essentially a heavily reworked version of the Tata’s original 1.4-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine with a cylinder subtracted, the petrol engine is all-new. The latter will feature a lightweight aluminum construction, along with four valves per cylinder.Diesel power is expected to be around 67bhp, along with 14kgm of torque and a fuel efficiency which should hover around the 25 kpl mark. Petrol power is said to be around 84bhp, along with 11kgm of twist. The petrol engine, in all probability, will share the ‘Revotron’ name.

Tata Motors is all set to unveil the new Zica in Goa on the December 1 and will hit the showrooms in January next year with a starting price around INR 3.6lakhs (expected). The Zica will go head on with the Maruti Celerio, Wagon R, Renault Kwid and Hyundai i10. Stay tuned for a detailed road test review of the Tata Zica soon!
