Tata Zica confirmed to get AMT, likely to launch at the Auto Expo

Tata Zica Sunburst Orange (8)

The Tata Zica which was unveiled on 3rd December is due for a launch sometime in January 2016. The Zica is set to receive an AMT transmission in its lifecycle says a report by Business Standard. Reports suggest that the AMT model is likely to debut at the upcoming Auto Expo to be held in Delhi next year. The transmission duties on both the petrol and diesel variant of the Zica are currently taken care of by the 5 speed manual transmission.

Tata Motors presently offers the AMT transmission on the Nano and the Zest compact sedan. The Zica will be the next model to come with this gearbox. The Nano gets AMT in the petrol variant while the Zest gets the AMT in the diesel variant. The petrol variant of the Zica will get the AMT gearbox first while the diesel AMT variant will be arriving later in the market. This development will make the Tata Zica the only diesel powered engine to have an AMT gearbox in its segment. The rivals of the Zica AMT, the Celerio AMT and the Hyundai i10 AMT are available in only in petrol trims.

The Zica is available with 2 engine trims, an all new 1.2 litre , three cylinder Revotron petrol engine that produces 85 PS of peak power at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm and a new 1.05 litre, three cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces maximum power of 70 hp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 140 Nm at 1,800 rpm-3,000 rpm.

Tata Motors seems to be aspirational about the sales of the Zica AMT not only due to the fact that it will be the only diesel AMT in the segment but also due to the fact that half of the GenX Nano sales are of the AMT variant.
