Tata Sway compact sedan, based on the Zica spied

Tata Sway front profile

Tata has been rumoured to be working on a compact sedan apparently termed as the Sway and now spy images of this upcoming model have surfaced online. The images of this test mule spotted in Satara suggest that the successor to the Indigo e-CS would also serve the taxi market apart from the passenger vehicle segment. The car is expected to be unveiled at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo.

Although the test mule is wrapped in a camouflage, it leaves very little to guess regarding the character of the car. On the first glance itself, it can be seen that the sub 4 metre sedan is based on the Zica but what makes it look different from the Zica is the extended boot. The front bumper consisting of the air dam and the fog lamps seem to have been carried over from its sibling even though we are not sure of its arrival in the final form due to its early stage of testing.

Reports also suggest that the Sway will be identical to the new hatchback from Tata from the front to all the way back till the C pillar. Expect the Sway to come loaded with all the features present in the Zica today some of which include a 2-DIN multimedia system with AUX USB and Bluetooth connectivity, a multi function steering wheel and a dual tone interior theme. ABS and airbags may come as a standard feature across variants to increase the safety aspect of the car.

Coming to the engine specifications, the Sway would share both the powertrain options from the Zica. On offer would be a 1.2 cylinder Revotron petrol engine producing 85 PS of peak power and 114 Nm of torque while the 1.05-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel motor is capable of producing 70 PS of peak power and 140 Nm of torque. Transmission duties would be taken care of by a 5 speed manual transmission while an AMT gearbox is expected to turn up later in the life cycle.

Once launched, the Sway would take on the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent. The compact sedan is expected to come with a price tag cheaper than its rivals at the launch which could take place at the Auto Expo in Greater Noida next month.
