Tata Nexon compact SUV to be launched by the end of this year

Riding on the success of the Tiago, Tata Motors recently launched what is arguably the most stylish compact sedan on Indian roads, the Tigor. With an aim to grab a larger share of the passenger vehicle pie, the country’s fourth biggest car manufacturer could launch the Nexon compact SUV by the end of this year. With a current five percent share of the market, the manufacturer aims to be among the top 3 by 2019.

In an interview, Pratap Bose, Head of Design, Tata Motors, said that the manufacturer does not have presence in some segments, compact SUV being one of them. However, he did mention that many new products are in their design and engineering phase and will be launched in a phased manner. These new cars will pave the way for the company’s strategy to chart sustained growth in the passenger vehicle segment.

Showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and the recently concluded Geneva Motor Show, the Tata Nexon follows the company’s new-age design language and just like their recent products, carries completely new genes in its metal. Displayed recently, the Tata Nexon Geneva Edition featured a a dual tone red and grey exterior color scheme, while the rest of the features remain identical to the car showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. Exterior features included a chrome ‘Humanity Line’ on the upper grill, projector headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs), LED tail lamps, a contrast tone rising belt-line finisher, a floating roof, 17” alloy wheels, and roof rails.

Inside, the NEXON Geneva Edition comes with an openable grand console with armrest, an integrated dashboard design with premium materials and surface texture, ergonomically placed bottle and cup holders, multiple utility spaces, handbag hangers, laptop & iPad trays.

Convenience features include an automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and an infotainment system, featuring a dash-top touchscreen exclusively designed by Harman, a speaker system for surround sound effect and features such as voice command recognition. The NEXON Geneva Edition is powered by a 1.5L diesel engine with three drive modes, a 6-speed manual transmission and an electric power assisted steering.
