Heavy rainfall across Gujarat has created major problems for industries, transport and daily life. The impact has now reached the automobile sector as Tata Motors has temporarily stopped production at its Sanand manufacturing plants. Flooded roads, waterlogged industrial areas and disruptions at supplier facilities have affected normal operations.
The company has confirmed that the production pause is temporary and work is already underway to restart manufacturing at the earliest.
Production Stopped At Sanand Plants
Tata Motors shared the update through a regulatory filing. Both of its passenger vehicle plants in Sanand have been affected by the heavy flooding in Gujarat.
Some areas in the state recorded between 300 mm and more than 500 mm of rainfall within 24 hours. The situation led to flooded roads, rail disruptions and the evacuation of more than 40,000 people.
Apart from Tata’s own facilities, several suppliers located in the region have also been affected, creating additional challenges for vehicle production.

Models That Could See Delays
The Sanand facilities build several popular Tata passenger vehicles.

Since production has been paused, customers waiting for these models could see a slight increase in delivery time if operations do not return to normal quickly.
Why Sanand Is Important
Sanand, located around 25 to 30 km from Ahmedabad, has become one of Tata Motors’ biggest manufacturing hubs. The original factory started operations in 2010 and was once used to build the Tata Nano before shifting to Tiago and Tigor production.
The second facility, acquired from Ford, now manufactures both petrol and electric versions of the Nexon and Sierra. Other Tata electric vehicles such as the Punch EV, Curvv EV and Harrier EV are produced at different plants.
