Not too long ago, the Suzuki Jimny 5 door was spotted testing abroad for the first time. If the rumors are true, the 3-door Jimny is already set to make its way to India next year and it will be followed by the 5-door version. Now, the 5-door Jimny has been spotted testing in India. The test mules are spotted testing in Leh to test their capabilities and they seem to be accompanied by the Mahindra Thar and the recently launched Grand Vitara.
What to expect
As expected, the 5-door Jimny will grow in every way over the standard 3-door model. The current Jimny’s 2250 mm wheelbase will see an additional 300 mm which result in a longer wheelbase of 2550 mm. With this, the Jimny 5-door will be longer than 3800 mm. We expect it to become slightly wider as well. The ground clearance will be over 200mm and the Jimny 5-door will be as capable offroad as its 3-door sibling. It will be heavier as well and it could roughly add on around 100 kgs.
As seen in the spy pictures, it is instantly recognizable as the Jimny, albeit a little longer. We expect to see some minor changes made to the design to keep it fresh. These changes will also make their way to the 3-door Jimny considering that it has been around for quite a while and a facelift is needed to keep it fresh. The interior will be more or less the same but we expect more equipment. It could feature Maruti’s new Smart Play Pro+ 9-inch infotainment system with connected car features. The current iteration of the Jimny is powered by Suzuki’s K15B engine. This 1.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder unit produces 105 hp of power and 138 nm of torque. It comes with a 5-speed manual as standard and a 4-speed automatic as an option.
However, we expect it to be replaced by the newer K15C 1.5-liter mild-hybrid unit that produces 101 hp and 136 nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. This engine has already replaced the K15B in the new Brezza and the mild-hybrid technology will help in keeping the emissions in check. As expected, it will continue with an all-wheel-drive system.
