Japanese auto maker Suzuki has put on display its new Suzuki Authentics Concept sedan at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2013 in China. The new concept sedan will spawn a car that would be positioned in the C Segment, which is the largest segment of Chinese car market in terms of volume.
Suzuki has also announced its intentions of going ahead with the production and distribution of the production version of the Authentics by the end of 2014. The car maker has also stated that the car will be produced at the Chongqing Changan Suzuki joint venture in China. For the Chinese car market, Suzuki plans to expand its market share by selling the production spec Authentics along with the new SX4 crossover.
It remains to be seen in what way would the Authentics concept would influence the much hyped next generation SX4 sedan. The Authentics measures 4.60 metres in length and has a wheelbase of 2.75 m. The car looks more aerodynamic than the SX4 sedan we all know of. The overdose of chrome at certain parts of the car should please the average car buyer in China and India.
Suzuki hasn’t yet revealed the engine details of the Authentics but it is being expected that the car would borrow the engines from the new SX4 crossover.
The Suzuki Authentics could venture into the entry level D segment if and when it comes to the fast developing Indian car market. It may be noted that so far, the sedans from Maruti Suzuki, with the exception of the Esteem, haven’t really managed to take our car market by storm and all this might change with the advent of the Authentics.
