As we keep on saying, Indian car market is slowly but surely warming up to cars equipped with automatic transmission and manufacturers are fast coming up with automatic variants of their products.
Skoda Autos India, the Indian subsidiary of VW Group owned Czech auto maker, has silently slipped in an automatic transmission variant of the Laura petrol. The petrol engined Laura is powered by a 1.8 Litre turbocharged petrol engine that is now available with a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. The newly launched Laura Automatic is available in Ambition trim level and is costlier by the manual variant by almost INR 1 lakhs. The Skoda Laura TSI AT comes with a sticker price of INR 15.65 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
The Skoda Laura TSI Auto has an ARAI certified fuel economy figure of 14.6 Kmpl, which is higher than the Laura 1.8 TSI Manual by 1.2 Kmpl! The Laura Petrol AT is being expected to be quicker than the manual variant due to its twin clutch 7 speed DSG gear box.
The 1.8 Liter TSI turbocharged petrol engine has a peak power output of 160Bhp and max. torque figure of 250Nm. This is the same engine that also powers the Skoda Superb petrol and the 1.8 TSI motor makes the Laura one of the most fun to drive cars this side of INR 20 lakhs.
