Honda Urban SUV to Rival Duster and EcoSport

We reported in detail when Japanese auto giant Honda unveiled the Urban SUV concept at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit and the production version of the Urban SUV is slated to go head on against the very popular Nissan Juxe, Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.

Now, what we have here are a couple of speculative rendering of the production spec Urban SUV by artist Renato Aspromonte.

The Urban SUV, which is being touted as the baby CRV, will be a strict soft roader with an aggressive stance, sloping roofline and a sharp styling. The headlamps on the Urban SUV are reminiscent of those on the Honda CR-Z sportscar and as with many new cars of this age, the Urban SUV might get its rear door handles placed on the C pillar (a la Chevrolet Beat).

The Urban SUV concept measures 4.3m in length and Honda might reduce the length of the production version to just under 4 metres in order to get its compact SUV entitled for excise duty benefits in India.

The Honda Urban SUV will be underpinned by the Honda Jazz/Fit platform. The production spec Honda Urban SUV will be developed at Honda’s  Brazil facility and will come with an aggressive price tag.

Powering the new SUV will be 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter petrol engines and safely expect Honda to include a diesel engine option when it launches the baby CRV in Indian market. While the international markets will get the 1.6 litre iDTEC diesel engine, Indian market might have to do with the 1.5 litre diesel engine that will be first seen on the upcoming Honda Brio Amaze entry level sedan (again necessary to enjoy duty cuts).
