Purists seem to be in for a treat in the coming months. Volkswagen is all set to launch the 1.8 litre Polo GT this year and now, if reports are to be believed, Skoda India also has a trick up its sleeve. The Czech automobile manufacturer is likely to launch the Octavia vRS edition in the country soon.

A high performance version of the current generation Octavia, the vRS edition model is already available in the international market and is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine as well as a 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine (European market). The former is capable of producing a power output of 216 bhp while the latter produces 181 bhp. Both the models can sprint from naught to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds and 8.1 seconds while the top speed stands at 244 kmph and 230 kmph respectively. Transmission duties are performed by a six speed manual transmission as well as a six speed DSG transmission. It remains unclear which powertrain will make it to the Indian shores.

Aesthetic upgrades would include a new front bumper featuring a wider air dam, a vRS badge on the grille, larger wheels and a rear spoiler on the exterior. The interior benefits from  an all black theme, new bucket seats and the vRS embossing on the headrests, door sills, gear knob and steering wheel. The Skoda Octavia vRS will command hefty premium over the regular model, with prices hovering in the range of Rs. 20-22 lakh.
