Recent reports suggest that Hyundai Motors India may extend its vehicle line-up with the introduction of a new subcompact SUV in 2018. The new product would be Hyundai’s first subcompact SUV and will be placed below the recently introduced Creta. According to the motoring portal NDTV Auto/Car and Bike, the subcompact SUV will debut at the 2018 edition of Auto Expo. The report also suggests that the subcompact SUV will not be based on the Carlino concept that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo,

Speaking to the motoring portal, Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motor India said, “The journey started with the Santa Fe as far as the current products are concerned then we added the Creta. We will be also launching the Tucson, which will be above Creta. And below the Creta – there is a space there – a wide space and we are equally looking forward towards having a very strong presence there.”

The subcompact SUV will borrow some hardware and design from the current Hyundai range. The report also suggests that the upcoming model will borrow design cues from the i30 while being based on the Grand i10 platform. It will also borrow certain parts and engine from the i20 hatchback and Creta compact SUV.

We would probably see a prototype by some time next year. While we wait for that, share your views about the Hyundai subcompact SUV with us through the comments section below.
