Tata Motors launched the new 2015 Tata Nano GenX in Mumbai yesterday. Prices start at INR 1.99 Lakhs* for the base XE variant with a manual transmission, while topping out at INR 2.89 Lakhs* for the top end XTA variant with the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).
*ex-showroom Delhi
We’ve already gone about explaining the changes in detail, but here goes:
The most significant addition to the GenX has to be the Magnetti Marelli-sourced 5-speed ‘Easy Shift’ Automated Manual Transmission. For easier progress in sticky traffic, it’s even got a Creep function.
Exterior styling has been smartened up with new, re-sculpted bumpers, while for the first time, the GenX adds an upward opening rear hatch to the Nano, which lends access to 110 liters of boot space (AMT version gets 94 liters).
The insides benefit from a new Latte finish for the dashboard in the top-end XT variants, two additional glove boxes, new, signature 3-spoke steering wheel, redesigned instrument cluster, updated seat fabrics, a Bluetooth-enabled AmphiStream music system with telephony feature and rear speakers. Fit and finish have been polished up too.
Other changes include a larger fuel tank with 24 litres of capacity, more rigid bodywork etc.
The GenX Nano is powered by the same 624cc, multi-point fuel injected, water cooled, naturally aspirated, 2 cylinder gasoline engine with 2 valves per cylinder. The engine, mounted at the back, produces 38PS power @ 5500 RPM and 51 Nm torque.
