Renault plans to launch Kwid with a 1 Litre petrol engine and an AMT variant in February

Renault India plans to display two new variants of their recently launched A segment car, the Kwid at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo in February. The two models that are expected to début are the Kwid with a 1 litre petrol engine and an AMT equipped variant (Automated Manual Transmission).

Renault had recently launched the Kwid with a 799 cc engine, mated to a manual transmission that starts at Rs. 2.57 lakhs (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) and competes with the likes of the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon. Once launched, the AMT Kwid and the 1.0 litre equipped Kwid will take on the Maruti AltoK10 AMT and the Maruti Alto K10 respectively.

Some reports had also suggested that the upcoming Kwid could feature ABS and dual front airbags as well as opposed to the optional driver airbag that is currently available only on the top end variant of the Kwid although ABS in unavailable.

The Kwid seems to have garnered a decent amount of success by receiving more than 80,000 bookings since its launch and Renault hopes to increase these numbers by two folds after the launch of the 1 litre engine and AMT variants. Renault India had earlier confirmed that they would launch these variants on the Kwid but had not confirmed the time-frame of the launch.

It can be noted that the Maruti Alto k10 comes with a price tag of Rs. 3.2 lakhs- 3.72 lakhs while the Maruti Alto K10 AMT comes with a price tag of about Rs. 4 lakhs and we expect the upcoming variants of the Kwid to be priced aggressively against these two models.
