French car maker Renault has revealed plans to launch a sports car under the Alpine brand, which will see daylight sometime in 2017. While production will towards the fag end of 2016, they plan to make between 3000 to 5000 cars annually. Renault intends to sell this rather futuristic looking car in European and key emerging markets. Apparently, the revival of the Alpine brand coincides with their 60th anniversary, for which, Alpine has created the Alpine Vision Gran Turismo, a virtual racing car that will feature in the Gran Turismo 6 video game.
While the virtual race car is powered by a 4.5-liter V8 engine developing around 450 hp and 580 Nm of torque, channeled to the rear wheels via a 7-speed sequential gearbox. The upcoming Alpine is rumored to be powered by a rear mounted, 1.6-litre, turbocharged engine that pumps out around 300 bhp, which might sound under powered for a sports car in this day and age. However, the Alpine is expected to be light weight, breaching the tonne mark by about a hundred kilos.
