Renault Alpine A110-50 to be more RETRO than futuristic

Renault Alpine A110-50 Concept

Renault’s design chief Laurens van den Acker has hinted that the sci-fi styled Renault Alpine A110-50 would adorn a more retro flair than futuristic form. “A real Alpine needs to look like the A110 Berlinette. We’re trying to do something similar to what BMW has done with the MINI and Fiat with the 500,” he said.

A traditional (as in earlier Alpines) rear-mounted engine (probably sourced from the Clio or the Megane) and a two seat configuration would be retained in the A110-50. Hinted for a 2015 launch, the Alpine would be locking horns with the Porsche Boxster and the Audi-TT.

Marketing boss Steve Norman quoted “The new Alpine will appeal to enthusiasts, but will maintain everyday driveability. It won’t be more hardcore than a Mazda MX-5. What we do will not be soft, but not hardcore like a Peugeot 106 Rallye. It must be light and look different, and have a touch of French dash.”

Though we wish the Alpine hit the conveyor line with minimal style reduction from the concept, but a retro-modern fusion has always witnessed a successful outcome. 2015 is still a long way to go.
