Taking horror levels through the roof, a moronic driver from Nampally, Hyderabad, knocked a 62-year-old farmer with his Maruti Suzuki Ritz bearing registration number – AP 09BY 2725. After being hit by the over-speeding car, the farmer from Nalagonda district near Hyderabad, Komirelli Venkat Reddy, was tossed into the air and landed onto the roof of the car and to add to the menace the driver drove with the body on the roof for over 20kms. Reddy was found lifeless when the car finally halted.
Md Raheem Khan, a watch dealer, was driving along with his colleague Md Shahbad Khab and were on their way towards Suryapet to deliver watches. The accident took place when the farmer tried to cross the road to reach his farm on the other side of the road. The speeding Ritz hit Reddy who was flung into the air and landed on top of the roof of the car, where the ill-fated farmer’s leg got stuck into the car’s aftermarket spoiler. With the fear of getting arrested, the accused driver did not stop and continued driving for around 20kms with the deceased mounted on the roof.
Many tried to chase the car and informed the cops. Also, bystanders shouted at the foolish driver to stop and take the old man to the nearby Kamineni hospital, but the driver didn’t, instead tried to evade by speeding. The cops laid a trap with help of the locals and caught the fleeing car and the occupants. A complaint of culpable homicide not amounting to murder is lodged by the victim’s relative Bhupal Reddy at Narketpally police station. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.
CH Murthy Rao, Sub-Inspector, Narketpally Police Station said that the duo claimed they were unaware of the body on the roof until the passers-by stopped their car and pointed out. He further added that the post mortem report says that the old man died on the spot because of multiple injuries. From the time of arrest, the duo have been in denial, according to a local sub inspector Motiram said that when the police stopped the car at Kattangur the body was lying on the roof and the driver said that they that were taking the sick old man to a nearby hospital on the roof of their car.
