The trend of compact SUVs is growing in India. Many carmakers are focusing on compact SUVs. Now, Geely is planning to launch the Proton brand in the Indian market.

What does Spyshots reveal about Proton X50?

Proton is testing the X50 since last year in India. However, the latest spy shots reveal the design of the Proton X50 without any camouflage. The compact SUV was spied near Pune-Nashik Highway.

While the test vehicle wears a red registration plate with a temporary number. Currently, there’s no clarity on whether Proton is testing it for launching purposes or general market study purposes. Meanwhile. there’s a possibility that the carmaker would be testing the X50’s platform for Indian road conditions.

In the spy image, the design of the compact SUV’s rear profile is revealed. The SUV gets a sleek stance with high mounted spoiler, LED taillights, and chrome sill with Proton badging. Meanwhile, the SUV wears the X50 moniker on the tailgate and it gets a bumper with a diffuser and exhaust muffler.

Details of Proton X50

Proton X50 is a mid-size compact SUV. Dimensionally, this SUV is 4330 mm long, 1800 mm wide, and 1609 mm tall. While the compact SUV has a wheelbase of 2600 mm.

The Proton X50 uses the Geely-Volvo-developed BMA modular platform. Meanwhile, the overall design profile of the Proton X50 seems inspired by the Vauxhall. The X50 looks elegant and has a sleek stance in its design.

The Proton X50 uses a powerful 1.5L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. It is available in different states of tune. The lower variants get 150ps of power and 226nm of torque output. But the higher variant produces 177ps of power and 250nm of torque output.

Meanwhile, the power is delivered via the 7-Speed DCT gearbox. With a 177ps state of tune, Proton X50 will become the most powerful compact SUV in India.

Expected Launch and The Competition

Currently, there is no clarity about the launch of the Proton X50 SUV. But we can expect that Proton might debut in India by 2025.

After the launch, the Proton X50 will compete with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, etc.
