Team Motoroids recently had the pleasure of witnessing the first of its kind motorsport event in the country. The Will It Drift event organized by Gautam Singhania and Kama Sutra condom brand saw some super customized cars drifting away in a fashion never seen before in this part of the world. The entire event was put together to promote the sport of car drifting in India – a country where even basic motor racing is in its early stage.
Christened Will it Drift, the event was organized at a custom built drifting circuit in Thane. Mr Singhania who has undergone rigorous (and very expensive) training in professional drifting was at the forefront of the event. Giving him company was Shawn Spiteri from Malta, also known as the King of Drift. Singhania himself has taken professional drifting as more than a hobby. He has participated at the highest level of the sport and has even won the Allstars European Drift Championship.
The best part about the event was that participation didn’t cost anything. Participants could bring their own cars, register for free and, well, start competitive drifting after two days of extensive training. You could practically drift away like a pro if you had the money to buy a set of four tyres. It was great to see your everyday cars like the Suzuki Baleno, Honda City and Maruti Swift trying to drift while sending power to their front wheels.
The big attraction of the show, however, was to see custom drift specced monsters spewing thick smoke from their tyres at the hands of both Mr. Singhania and Spiteri. Long drifts without a break, an unending trail of rubber smoke and the sweet sound of big engines, including that of the fully customized BMWs and Nissans – the atmosphere represented heaven for those who love speed.
Some lucky guys, including our very own Hanoz Patel managed to get a spin around the track with Shawn Spiteri, and the experience, according to him cannot be described in words.
Finally, a list of winners was released by the judges, listing down the top drifters for the day. Here’s a list of all the participants, topped by the three top performers. Enjoy the image gallery following the rankings.

Am a fan of Drifting and do so myself….and as far as I know Keiichi Tsuchiya is the one and only original Drift King. No dis-respect but that’s not Shawn.
