Porsche Accident: Professional racer found guilty; asked to pay INR 27.5 Lakhs as compensation

Back in September, we had reported about an unfortunate incident that occurred in the city of Chennai. In an ill-fated case of drunk driving, Vikash Anand, a professional racer from Chennai, was on his way back home from a party. He lost control on his Porsche Cayman S and rammed into 12 stationary auto rickshaws. One of the auto-rickshaw drivers was killed and eight others suffered injuries. Vikash and his friend escaped unhurt and were later arrested.

Following the arrest, investigations and legal proceedings, the Judge of the Madras High Court ordered the accused to pay a compensation amounting to a total of INR 27.5 Lakhs. The judge said that Vikash drove his car in a rash and negligent manner and dashed into stationary autorickshaws after hitting the divider. The accident killed one of the rickshaw drivers, severely injured three people while five people sustained minor injuries. It also damaged 12 autorickshaws.

In order to obtain bail, Vikash will have to pay INR 15 Lakh as compensation to the victim’s seven-year-old daughter. The amount will go as a fixed deposit in the minor girl’s name, for which the principal session judge of the city civil court in Chennai would be the guardian, the judge said. Also, a sum of INR 2.5 Lakhs has to be paid to each of the five severely injured rickshaw driver and INR 1 Lakh to the ones suffered minor injuries. In addition to this, Vikash has to bear the little girl’s educational expenses. Along with the compensation demanded from Vikash, his friend, who was with him in car at the time of accident has been found guilty as well. He is required to pay INR 1 lakh to each of the 12 autorickshaw drivers.
