Nore: We have removed the images, on being requested to do so by Nissan Thailand. We’ll let you know all the details when the vehicle is officially unveiled on June11

We have been reporting about Nissan’s new pick-up truck doing the rounds on the internet through teasers showcased by the company. Now, this pick-up is not coming to India. But it is still of interest to us because Nissan may launch an SUV based on this new pick-up.

The new pick-up truck, called the Nissan Navara D23, is all set to be launched in Thailand next week. But we don’t have to wait for that long to see what it looks like as the images of this new workhorse got leaked days before the launch.

The exterior dons a new, chrome treated grille. The pick-up also gets new headlights which comprise of daytime running lights. On the inside, the new Navara gives a passenger car like feel. So, it can be safely assume that the developing country bound SUV will share similar equipments. The steering wheel comes with mounted controls and the a full colour multi-info display in the instrument cluster is placed between the speedo and RPM meter. The Navara also gets a engine start/stop switch. What’s more interesting to see is that the photographs showcased, display a right-hand drive configuration.

The Navara is anticipated to be powered by 2.5-liter turbo diesel powerhouse delivering 190 PS (140 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque which will be transmitted to all the wheels through a six- or seven-speed automatic transmission.

This pick-up is set to be launch on June 11, 2014. Nissan may start research and development for the new SUV after the launch, if not already, and we may soon see a prototype. Nissan’s new Chairman for India, Middle East and Africa, Takashi Hata, said that SUVs can help the company make a mark in India especially given the fact that Nissan is one the most successful SUV maker in the world.

But if the new Navara is something to go by, we believe we are going to have many sleepless nights awaiting the new Nissan SUV.
