It is no secret that the Micra hatchback from Nissan hasn’t exactly set sales charts on fire and Nissan India has been trying hard to promote the Micra in the very competitive B segment of fast growing Indian car market.
Market watchers say that much of this has to do with the ‘dolly car’ looks of the pre-facelift Micra and what is needed is an image makeover for the India spec Micra. While we have always felt that the recently launched Micra facelift, which came to us soon after its international debut, looks far more stylish and aggressive than the pre-facelift model, Nissan India might still be busy with planning to further update the Micra line-up.
What could be headed our way is a decidedly sporty Nismo variant of the Micra. The Nismo Micrac comes from the performance division of Nissan and might become a direct rival to the recently launched Toyota Etios 1.5 TRD and Volkswagen Polo GT TSI 1.2 in Indian car market. Visually, the Nismo Micra looks every bit a hotter version of the family hatchback and comes with sportier bumpers, skirts and bigger wheels. Internationally, the car also comes with a sportier exhaust, stiffer suspension and bigger brakes but the India spec Nismo Micra could be devoid of all this in favor of a lower price tag.
However, there are good chances of the car coming with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 114 bhp of max power and 16 kgm of peak torque.
Expect the car to come with a sticker price of INR 8 lakhs.
