Next Generation Suzuki Grand Vitara to be based on Kizashi platform

We reported in detail when the Suzuki Grand Vitara got a facelift to keep the car fresh for another few years. Now, it has emerged that the Japanese car maker plans to launch the next generation of the GV in 2015. Underpinning the all new Grand Vitara would be the Kizashi platform and hence, is being expected to have better road manners and great body control.

While recently launched Grand Vitara facelift gave the Indian car market a miss, the all new generation of the SUV is sure to come to us. It may be noted that the GV comes to us via CBU route and available only on order. Powering the India-spec Suzuki Grand Vitara is a 2.4 Liter four cyl, petrol motor that pumps out a decent power-torque output of 163.5 Bhp-225 Nm. The engine comes loaded with Variable Valve Timing and is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. The car also comes with an optional 4 speed automatic gearbox.

The European car market also gets a a diesel variant of the Grand Vitara. The Grand Vitara diesel is powered by a 1.9 Litre Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine which has a peal power-torque output of 128Bhp-300Nm. The Grand Vitara Diesel has a fuel economy figure of 18.2 Kmpl.

The Grand Vitara diesel makes a lot of sense for Indian market. However, Maruti Suzuki has only recently said that it is not looking up to bigger vehicles for its sales growth and the GV and Kizashi are more of ‘brand-building’ products.

It remains to be seen if MSIL would bring the diesel variant of the all new generation of Grand Vitara to our car market.
