Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, has recently confirmed that the next-gen Thar is in the works. The Thar has been a favourite among buyers who require a four wheel drive vehicle with great off-roading capabilities.
Originally launched in the year 2010, the Thar was given a mid-life facelift back in the year 2015. Mahindra’s Pininfarina and Ssangyong are likely to contribute to the styling of the next-gen Thar as well. This does not rule out the possibility of Mahindra’s own design team working on the Thar though.

Reports suggest that the next-gen Thar is also likely to be exported and a few markets could also receive the model with a new 1.5-litre petrol engine. The engine, whose development was recently confirmed, would be jointly developed by Mahindra and Ssangyong and would be used in their respective vehicles.
The Indian automobile manufacturer is also said to be working on new features such as Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity, memory seats, wireless charging as well as intelligent and assisted driving for future Mahindra vehicles. There is no official confirmation on which of these features would make it to the next generation Thar.
