Note: Changes made are only applicable to the CRDe variant – the DI variant continues unchanged.
On the outside, the new Thar CRDe come with new front & rear bumpers, clear lens headlamps, new wheel arch trim, new side steps, and a redesigned rear canopy. The interiors get majorly upgraded with an all-new dashboard, along with new steering wheel, gear lever, seats and upholstery. Mechanical changes come courtesy a mechanical locking, rear differential by Eaton.
The new front bumper’s more of a shroud, and we believe it kills the classic, open wheeled character of the original Thar.
The new Thar gets a healthier set of side footsteps, while the wheel arch trim has been beefed up too.
The Thar finally gets clear lens headlamps: Now or Never
With a 44-degree approach angle, a 27-degree departure angle, and a ground clearance of 200 mm, the new Thar loses none of its off-road prowess.
The soft-top gets mildly revised, with a little rake at the back.
The bulk of the changes lie in here. Even the door trims are new.
The seats get wider, more accommodating and re-upholstered.
The all-new dual tone dashboard looks like a miniaturized war bunker; gets circular HVAC vents, windshield demister, prominent Thar branding on the new center console, a 12V socket and fresh switchgear.
Passengers’ side of the dashboard gets a lockable glovebox and a new grab handle highlighted with a chrome strip.
Snazzy new steering wheel gets brushed silver inserts.
Brand new 3-pod instrument cluster gets trimmed in chrome; has clear and legible dials
Re-designed floor console gets cup holders, and a new gear lever.
2500 cc CRDe heart continues unchanged; pumps out 105 bhp, along with 247 Nm of torque; mated to a five-speed manual box and 4WD.
For the keener off-road enthusiast, who represent a healthy part of the Thar’s clientèle, Mahindra will now offer the 2015 Thar with an optional MLocker by Eaton. This mechanical locking differential engages automatically during low traction situations when a wheel speed difference of 100 RPM or greater (left-to-right) is detected, thus ensuring the vehicle gets the best traction possible.

Thar had a clean, uncluttered classic lines which made it look so handsome, but now it’s no more. Mahindra always tend to go overboard with its designs. They should have kept it like before. The Thar Di variant too definitely needs power steering and an AC upgrade ASAP (at least as a paid option).
Distant plastics used all around. Mahe is repeating its mistake ever again. Poorly designed interior and awesomely crushable exterior, instead of tough materials. Just not there..
Suppa excellent job done by Mahindra team for the #Thar …I would choose this # Thar now …instead of the Jeep Wrangler…..Kudos to Mahindra
