Next generation Ford EcoSport may get a new spare wheel position, launch expected in May 2015

Ford EcoSport 2

The Ford EcoSport will receive a face-lift in 2015 and a test mule of this updated compact SUV was spotted in November last year. The 2015 face-lift is expected to receive a few design changes, the biggest of which is the replaced position of the rear mounted spare wheel. Reports from Automotive News Europe confirm that the 2015 model will make its debut in May 2015 and will be sold in Europe without the exterior spare wheel.

Ford EcoSport India Launch Date (303)

Currently, the SUV is not finding many buyers in the European market as Ford managed to sell only 11,257 units of the EcoSports through November, since its launch in April 2014. Hence, Ford will introduce an overhauled model in hopes of improving the sales performance. Interiors are also likely to see a few changes with the addition of high quality plastics. The company may also load the 2015 model with a revised suspension setup. A company spokesperson has confirmed that Ford plans to give the EcoSport ‘a bit more Fiesta (compact hatchback) personality’ which is currently Ford’s No. 1 seller in Europe. The powermill is expected to remain the same for 2015 with 1.5 TDCi (Diesel), 1.0 Ecoboost (Petrol) and 1.5 TiVCT (Petrol) performing the duty on the upcoming model.

Will these changes reflect in the Indian models? We believe that Ford will introduce the facelift EcoSport for the Indian market to keep up with the changing times and withstand the rising competition as local as well as international manufacturers are planning to introduce their crossover and compact SUVs in India soon.

  1. Ecosport will look very short and chopped rear due to short length and significant height. They must keep it.
