We reported in detail when it first emerged that the Tata Group owned British SUV maker Land Rover intends to launch the next generation of the Discovery sometime next month.
A French auto magazine has now come up with a digital rendering of the next generation Land Rover Discovery and there are good chances that the actual car might look pretty close to the one in this illustration.
It is pretty much for sure that very much like the latest Ranger Rover and the Ranger Rover Sport, the new Discovery will shed a lot of weight due to a lighter chassis that would have huge aluminium content. This also means that the 2015 Land Rover Discovery will be a better handler and will be more fuel efficient. The new Disco will share its platform with the latest Range Rover and will be close to 400 kgs lighter that the current model.
Also in the pipeline is a diesel hybrid engine variant of the Land Rover. We won’t be too surprised to see the new ZF 9-speed automatic transmission making it to the next gen Discovery.
The new Discover is expected to have a starting price of approx €50,000. The next gen Disco will be produced at carmaker’s Solihull factory.
