The design of the new Volkswagen Tiguan

Volkswagen has christened the name Tiguan which is made up of two words:  Tiger and Iguana. Currently, the 2nd generation facelift version of Tiguan is on sale. From the images, it is evident that the design of the new Tiguan is less boxy and boasts a sporty flair. The overall design language is similar to the ID.7 concept model and looks more sublime, radical, and sleek than the outgoing model.

The design of the prototype depicts the reduction in the understated elegance for which the VW cars are known. Moreover, the dimensions of the new generation Tiguan are slightly more mammoth than the outgoing model. Going on numbers, the new Tiguan is 32mm longer at 4,551mm, and 5mm taller at 1,640mm. While the width and wheelbase are similar at 1,939mm and 2,681mm respectively.

The Technology Paradigm and Nomenclature

As per reports, Volkswagen will not offer varied wheelbase configurations. Instead, the brand will separately launch the 7-seater version named Tayron. On the exterior front, the new Tiguan gets wide LED DRLs, and HD matrix headlights with 19,200 microns having 500m visibility. The images show that the new Tiguan sits on the stylish new 5-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, the new Tiguan gets an LED light bar emerging the taillights resulting in a sleek profile.

The carmaker has not shared the official images of the interior. Yet, the teaser images have revealed the touchscreen set-up like a large tablet. The touchscreen set-up resembles the one which was featured in the Volkswagen ID.7 with a 15-inch unit. Moreover, the carmaker will plonk-in a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and windscreen heads-up display replacing the outgoing pop-out unit. The higher variants are expected to get ventilated seats enhancing comfort.

Powertrain Options

In terms of mechanical counterpart, the new Tiguan is expected to receive a multitude of powertrain options. The powertrain options are likely to include petrol, diesel, and PHEV hybrid propulsions. The PHEV hybrid version is expected to belt out approx. 268hp of power and 120km range in EV mode. Like the current model, the new generation Tiguan will be available in FWD and AWD drivetrain options.
