  • New Mercedes C63 AMG Engine- 4.0 liter, Twin Turbocharged, V8

German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz recently announced that the new Mercedes C63 AMG launch date will fall in 2015 and the upcoming model will be powered by a new downsized 4.0 liter, twin turbocharged, V8 petrol engine.

This news comes straight from Tobias Moers, Mercedes AMG’s product chief, who told Auto Express that the new Mercedes C63 AMG launch is “about a year” away.

The current gen Mercedes C63 AMG, which is based on the last gen C Class, is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engin that will be replaced by a smaller turbocharged unit for the next gen model. This would be keeping in line with Mercedes AMG’s downsizing trend, which started with the SL 63 AMG, S 63 AMG and E 63 AMG, all of which are now propelled by a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8.

The upcoming C 63 AMG though, will get an even smaller turbocharged engine in the form of a 4.0-liter twin turbo unit. “You are now familiar with our 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine? Well you can imagine what happens when you put two of those together,” he said.

While Boers refrained from revealing the upcoming car’s power figures, we reckon that the upcoming C63 AMG’s 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 unit should be good for at least 450hp in its regular avatar. With the optional Performance package though, it could very well cross the magical 500hp mark.
