Mahindra and Mahindra will soon roll out a new SUV from its stables that will be underpinned by the Ssangyong X100 platform. The news comes after Dr Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra confirmed that an all new SUV will be introduced for the Indian market. The X100 platform underpins the Ssanyong Tivoli so it would be safe to assume that the upcoming product will be a compact SUV. The upcoming SUV is expected to bridge the gap between the TUV300 and the XUV500.

Besides the confirmation of the new SUV, Dr Goenka remained tight lipped about any further details. Though unconfirmed, the new SUV is expected to draw power from an all new 1.5-litre petrol motor. The new engine is also expected to propel the TUV300 and the NuvoSport too. Besides the petrol engine, a 1.6-litre diesel engine may also be available as an option for the new compact SUV, unless Mahindra brings in an all new oil burner.

While there aren’t many details about the upcoming SUV, we do know that Mahindra-Ssangyong will unveil the Tivoli compact SUV for the Indian market very soon. In terms of pricing, the Tivoli is expected to sit above Mahindra’s upcoming compact SUV. So while the Tivoli is expected to carry a price tag in the range of INR 15-18 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mahindra SUV will most probably be priced between INR 9-12 lakh (ex-showroom).

We are waiting for more details from Mahindra and Mahindra. Meanwhile, let us know your views about the X100 based Mahindra SUV through the comments section below.

  1. KUV 100 Biggest draw back is centre console in between front seats. Drivers knee touches very strongly to it. Average height driver can’t run it on longer run or in traffic. Very discomfort.

  2. Vaibhav Bambha

very good move by mahindra, this will definitely capture the sale sof hyundai creta and would compliment mahindra in its product portfolio
