Hyundai’s all-new Elite i20 is already off to a resounding start in India, and now the hatchback is making its European debut at the Paris Motor Show. The European-bound i20 has a few styling and mechanical differences though – foremost of which is the engine.
Apart from the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines on offer here, Hyundai is offering a 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.1-litre diesel engine options for Europe. The lucky Europeans are also getting Hyundai’s all new 1.0-litre T-GDI, 3 cylinder, turbocharged unit that makes around 120 PS of peak power and 172 Nm of peak torque, from January next year.
The European-spec Hyundai Elite i20 also gets daytime running LEDs, hill-start assist, six airbags, and Lane Departure Warning System.
Hyundai also stated that the Elite i20 would no longer be exported to Europe as CBUs from their Chennai plant. It will now be built at Hyundai’s Turkey plant with an annual production capacity of 5,00,000 units.
