New BYD Qin PHEV does 0-100kmph in 5.9 secs!

BYD Auto has come up with the new Qin plug-in hybrid sedan in China. The manufacturer says that the new PHEV will also be sold in other international markets, including that of Europe, from early 2015.

The new BYD Qin PHEV is on sale in China from €23,725 to €26,225 (£19,645 to £21,715), prior to any sort of subsidiary.

Powering the new BYD Qin PHEV is a 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline engine that is mated to a pair of electric motors. Together, these power-sources deliver a max power output of 299hp (223kW) and peak torque of 440 Nm (324 lb-ft). The manufacturer claims that the new Qin PHEV can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in just 5.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 185kmph. All this, with an overall fuel economy of 1.6 l/100km (177mpg in UK cycle). The new BYD Qin PHEV can be used on electric power alone for up to 70kms.

The car comes with as many as four driving functions – EV+ECO, EV+SPORT, HEV+ECO and HEV+SPORT

The new BYD Qin PHEV boasts of features like a 12.1-inch TFT instrument panel, a smart key system and BYD’s remote driving facility. The remote driving facility, in the words of manufacturer, “allows the car to be maneuvered remotely at very low speed from the outside of the vehicle where permissible“.

Standard safety features available on the China spec BYD Qin PHEV consists of Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Electric Park Brake, ISO-FIX mounting points for child safety seats, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Control Deceleration Parking and a set of as many as 12 air bags!
