After the launch of their all-new 2015 TT Coupé in the country, Audi will get their flagship supercar – the R8, to India next year. This second-gen 2015 model boasts of a glorious sounding 5.2-litre, naturally-aspirated V10 that comes in two states of tune. The standard V10 R8 pumps out ‘just’ 533bhp and 539 Nm of torque, while the top-end V10 Plus model makes 601bhp and 559 Nm of twisting force. Regardless of the Lamborghini Huracan-sourced engine’s output, power is channeled through a 7-speed dual-clutch tranny. This S-Tronic gearbox then sends the power to an all-new quattro AWD system.
The V10 Plus model can be identified by that rear spoiler.
Thanks to the generous use of elements such as aluminium and carbon-fibre, this Audi has shed 50 kg of weight. Add to that increased body rigidity, wider and lower body, the result is a supercar that can do some wonderful things when you show it some corners. The new Audi R8 V10 Plus can hit 100 km/h in just 3.2 secs and go on till the needle strikes 330 km/h.
Like in the new TT Coupé, the R8 uses a multifunction LCD in place of traditional dials.
As with any Audi, the options list is vast and includes fancy 19-inch alloys, LED headlights with optional laser-guided high-beams, Audi Virtual Cockpit system and an engine soundtrack worth dying for. The new R8 V10 has India-friendly fuel-saving features such a stop-start system and Cylinder-on-Demand tech. These systems help this German supercar to deliver 10% better fuel consumption figure than before. We expect the ex-showroom price to be around INR 2 crores (at least).
