Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited has launched the all new Access 125 in India, the bike was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. Suzuki has sold more than 2 million units of the Access 125 in the Indian market, and plans to expand its sales footprint with the new version. The all-new (full model change) Access 125 is a departure from the edgy looks of its predecessor and leans towards the curvy, Italian design cues akin to the Vespa offerings and the more recently introduced Yamaha Fascino. The company has priced the base variant of the 2016 Access at 53,887 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The key highlight of the new Access apart from the new design is its new 125cc engine, which, according to the official Suzuki statement inherits “the latest technology developed by Suzuki from its MotoGP racing experience and advanced analysis techniques.” That’s stretching it a bit too far, though the claims of the scooter offering “top class fuel efficiency and powerful acceleration” can be confirmed once we take the scoot out for an exhaustive test ride.

The Suzuki Access 125 is powered by a 124cc single cylinder engine with peak output of 8.7 PS @ 7000rpm and peak torque of 10.2 Nm @ 5000rpm. The CVT transmission for the scooter has also been fine tuned for better overall performance. Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) that reduces friction has been employed on the new Access and Suzuki is claiming a fuel economy of 64 km/l

The scooter’s side panels have been revised along with updated wraparound LED tail lamp and clear lens indicators. The new front apron is new as well, and the instrument panel now comprises a digital-analog display.

The new Suzuki Access 125 measures 1870mm in length, 655mm in width and 1160mm in height with a wheelbase of 1265mm. Ground clearance stands at 160mm and the kerb weight is rather light 102 kg. The scooter also gets new alloy wheels.

The new Access 125 is targeted at all age brackets, and boasts features like the longest seat in the segment, largest under-seat storage in the segment (21 litre), larger floorboard, front pocket, optional DC socket, first of its kind Suzuki Easy Start System, multi function instrument cluster with digital display and steel front fender and leg shields for added protection and durability. Other features include Suzuki Easy Start System with one-push starter, Push Type Shuttered Key and Service Indicator.

The new Access 125 gets a new rigid yet lightweight frame for better dynamic ability and more efficiency. The front wheel is now larger at 12 inches and the suspension has apparently been fine tuned for better road holding performance over rough and uneven roads.

2016 Suzuki Access (5)

In terms of design, the new Access 125 gets a new styling, with chrome finish 3D emblem logo and bodywork with stylish lines. Along with the standard drum brake version launched today, a disk brake variant will be introduced in a couple of months.

The new Access 125 will be available in 5 colours — Pearl Suzuki Deep Blue, Candy Sonoma Red, Pearl Mirage White, Metallic Matt Fibroin Gray and Glass Sparkle Black.

Mr. Kenji Hirozawa, Vice President, sales & marketing, SMIPL, said “The new Suzuki Access 125 is our flagship scooter. Equipped with our revolutionary SEP technology, it combines the best of both worlds – power and mileage. A complete redesign from the ground up – both cosmetic and technical – ensures that this scooter welcomes any road. This launch reflects our understanding of the Indian consumer and their needs, and is a manifestation of our efforts in catering to the same.”
