New 2016 Hyundai Tucson: Variants and features explained

Hyundai Motor India launched the third generation of the Tucson in the country with prices starting at INR 18.99 lakh to INR 24.99 lakh. Based on Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, the 2016 Tucson features the signature hexagonal front grille, which connects with the dual barrel LED headlamps. Wing-shaped horizontal bar at the front bumper are flanked by LED DRLs on either side. The rear profile is said to have a clean design with horizontal lines that flows from rear wheel arches accented by slim tail lights. The posterior of the vehicle also receives twin chrome exhausts Dimension wise, the new Tucson measures 4475 mm in length, 1850 mm in width and 1660 mm in height while the wheelbase stands at 2670 mm. This SUV rides on 18 inch alloy wheels riding on 225/55 section tyres.

Key features of the exterior of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson include dual barrel LED headlamps, LED static bending, positioning lamps, fog lamps with LED DRLs, LED rear combination lamps, twin chrome exhausts, 18 inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, sporty spoiler with LED stop lamp, chrome door handle with pocket lighting, puddle lamp, chrome finish beltline and a shark fin antenna.

The new Tucson is powered by options of two engines – 2.0 Nu Dual VTVT petrol engine and the 2.0 R e-VGT diesel engine. The 1999cc petrol engine produces 155 PS at 6200 rpm while the peak torque of 192 Nm comes up at 4000 rpm. The 1995cc diesel engine is tuned to produce 185 PS at 4000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1750-2750 rpm. Transmission options include a six speed manual transmission and a six speed automatic transmission for both the powertrains. The automatic transmission equipped 2016 Tucson will also have three drive modes: Normal, Eco and Sport.

Safety features on the new Tucson include 6 Airbags, ESP with VSM, HAC (Hill-start Assist Control), DBC (Downhill Brake control), ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera with steering adaptive guidelines, height adjustable front seat belts, speed sensing auto door lock, impact sensing auto door unlock, 3 point ELR seatbelt, door inside reflectors and child seat anchor.

A few segment first features on the new Tucson include hands free smart power tail gate and electric parking brake, 8 inch HD touchscreen audio video navigation system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity and voice recognition. Also on offer is a 10 way adjustable power driver seat, reclining rear seats with height adjustable headrests, auto folding ORVM with heated function, compass on ECM, tilt and telescopic steering, auto headlamps with escort function, smart key and push button start, auto defogger, glove box cooling, luggage screen, rear seat armrest with cup holder and rear AC vents.
